Imagine trying to write without a pencil, color without a crayon, or carry school books without a backpack. For nearly 130,000 students in Central Florida, this is a reality every day. An award-winning nonprofit organization, A Gift For Teaching works to fill in this gap by collecting surplus supplies from local businesses and individuals and then distributes them to students in need through the Free Store for teachers. Volunteer opportunities are available for everything from store clerks, retail merchandisers, and shopping assistants to event planners and office assistants. Since 1998, A Gift For Teaching has distributed more than $31 million worth of learning tools to ensure equal education for all children.
Mission Statement:
A Gift For Teaching's mission is to ensure that underprivileged students in the Central Florida community have the basic tools necessary to succeed in school and life by collecting and distributing the community's surplus supplies through the Free Store for teachers.
